CEO, ManholeMetrics
I studied at Westminster from 2012 to 2017 and completed A-Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, French and an AS in Spanish. The somewhat unique combination exercised both sides of the brain, whilst enjoying the company of a diverse set of classmates, as well as developing linguistic skills that proved essential for later work and travel. Additionally, it afforded me the opportunity to study engineering at university.
Alongside my studies, I was also a member of the School’s boat club, WSBC, where I secured medals both in the UK and further afield, including the US and Europe and I rowed in the 1st VIII.
At the Manoukian Music Centre, I continued to develop my passion for music, taking piano lessons and achieving Grade 7; I also learned to play the trumpet and subsequently participated in the Brass Ensemble and Symphonic Wind Bands.
Having exceeded my predicted grades, I opted to take a gap year to re-apply, spending time working in the industry in which I wanted to study. I worked on the Crossrail project before moving to Paris to join a specialist French contractor for 6 months. Following this, I pursued further study at Imperial College London and obtained a Master of Civil Engineering with First-Class Honours in June 2022.
During my time at Imperial, I became involved with many initiatives, chairing the Civil Engineering Society and co-founding the Intercollegiate Engineering Alliance to unite engineering students globally during the pandemic. In my penultimate year, following a basement sewage flood in my accommodation, I founded ManholeMetrics – a tech start-up on a mission to end flooding using low-cost, long-life and easy-to-install sensors and analytics. Following my graduation, I went full-time with the venture as the CEO.
My work with ManholeMetrics has won awards including the Mayor’s Entrepreneur Programme and an Enterprise Fellowship from the Royal Academy of Engineering, as well as receiving grant funding from the Citibank Foundation and Innovate UK, the British Government’s innovation body. ManholeMetrics has secured support from Thames Water, Yorkshire Water and National Highways; its tech is to be deployed for field trials shortly with Anglian Water and Yorkshire Water.
