Title | FOWSAR 2025 |
Details | We are delighted to announce our Fourth Friends of Westminster School Annual Recital, featuring OW Antony Friend, Clarinettist (CC, 2004-09) with Antonio Oyarzabal (concert and collaborative pianist). This will take place at 2.30 pm on Saturday 1 March at the Manoukian Music Centre. The program will last approximately an hour without an interval and there will be a chance to talk to the musicians afterwards. All ticket sales go to the musicians and in the case of profits, to other projects supporting OW musicians/The WM Music Fund. After leaving Westminster Antony attended Cambridge University and the Royal Academy of Music. As a clarinettist, he has worked with orchestras including the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonia and many chamber ensembles including the Allegri String Quartet. He’s also a co-founder of Filthy Lucre, an immersive mixed-genre new music series and has worked with the Hermes Experiment, Riot Ensemble and Ensemble x.y. He was also described as a hero by The Arts Desk for his efforts to regenerate live concerts during the pandemic which is the same passion that inspired me to initiate this series of concerts, reaching out to OW musicians to reconnect them with their ‘home crowd”. Antony has other strings to his bow, too (why is there no equivalent for other instruments?) which you will be able to read about in the programme. Antonio Oyarzabal is just as impressive! Guildhall trained, he performs solo and chamber recitals in the UK, US, and throughout Europe. He has published 5 albums. ‘La Muse Oubliee”, a collection of piano works by women composers (which made Number 1 of the top 5 piano albums of 2021 by Fanfare Magazine in the US). “El Fin de Silencio” (Latin American composers) was Critic’s Choice in BBC Music Magazine. Antonio was named Ambassador for Donne UK, a leading institution for women in music.
